It looks like newswoman Katie Couric took a cue from Lexus' annual holiday ad campaign -- which features happy folks being surprised by new cars with big red bows.
The newly single mother of two just posted a video on her WhoSay page of herself and her daughters -- 20-year-old college junior Ellie and high school sophomore Carrie, 15 -- surprising her mother, Elinor, with a new black sedan.
Nope, isn't a Lexus. We're sure of that because Katie sings:
"We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, Good tidings we bring in the form of an Audi…"
Katie is one of many Americans who forked over fistfuls of dough on a new whip this holiday season. According to J.D. Power & Associates, despite the stalled economy, December car sales were as robust as they've been since the debut of the Cash for Clunkers program in 2009.
New vehicle retail sales this month are projected to come in at $1,033,700 — the first time retail sales will top $1 million in two years, USA Today reports.
"What do you think? Isn't it cute!?" Katie asks her speechless mom, who shakes her head, and finally utters, "Yes, it is."
Katie, 54, later tweeted an image of "Mom in her new ride!"
She added that she had "so much fun" presenting it to her.
Fun hasn't been high on Katie's list of priority as of late.
Friends say she's still working through her split from boy toy beau Brooks Perlin earlier this month. Brooks, who is 17 years Katie's junior, was spied moving out of her Upper East Side home a few weeks ago.
"Brooks is a great person and a real gentleman; he and Katie enjoyed their time together. But after five years, they have decided it was time to go their separate ways," a spywitness told The New York Post at the time.
