Charlize Talks About Her Bullied Youth

Charlize Theron revealed that she was bullied as a young girl. Find out why the "mean girls" made her cry.

Charlize Theron said she was ugly as a child

It's a familiar refrain: Beautiful actress or model was actually a really ugly duckling as a child, you guys.

Cue the violins.

Sure, we love to follow our favorite entertainers, but we don't believe for a minute that they were ever chubby, ugly or awkward. The latest beautiful and perfect actress to claim that she was an awkward kid? Snow White and the Huntsman actress Charlize Theron.

"I wore really nerdy glasses because I was blind as could be and the boys didn't like [me]," the 36-year-old actress told People. "I didn't have any boyfriends, but lots of crushes."

The South Africa-born actress went to great and "crazy" lengths to get attention from those she coveted most, like the popular girls.

"I wasn't in the popular crowd. There was a really popular girl at school and I was obsessed with her. I mean you would go to jail for that stuff today," Theron remembered with a laugh. "I was in tears one day because I couldn't sit next to her."

She eventually got over it, though.

"I actually got a lot of the mean girl stuff from the ages of 7 to 12. I was pretty much a mess in primary school," she admits. "But I got that out of my system by the time I got to high school and was more immune to all of that stuff."

Now, she's the one millions of women want to emulate with her looks, body and career.

Sorry, Charlize: We love you, but we're still not buying it.

I do not see what other people see in this woman. She is not that pretty at all?

Well I believe anyone is possible of having been bullied. I know some very popular people who were both bullied and the bully at the same time. Bullying is not only for the perfect looking and being bullied is not only for the ugly. Bullying comes to people of all shapes and szes and all walks of life. I personally think she's gorgeous, but I also have no respect for her, not because of her looks or career but because she talked her boyfriend into melting down his guns. How shallow. Maybe she's seen too many movies, maybe she doesn't realize that mass shootings or violent crimes have actually gone down, or that the largest school mass killing was in the late 1920s . The point is, guns are used more for sport than for killing. In fact 1 percent of legal guns are ever used in a violently crime, yet 99 percent of guns seen on TV are shown in a violent manner. Charlize Theron and her boyfriend are among those who made millions portraying guns as 98 percent more violent then they are in reality! They have taught our childepren the way to use a gun is in a violent manner rather thn shooting paper at the range, then the hypocrites blame the guns not them selves. That deserves no respect. Check the stats on FBI.gov. All long guns combined including so called assault weapons, kill less people per year than hammers, or fists. Violence is in the people, not in the metal. Lets stop teaching kids to be violent in TV and movies.

Nothing special to look at. Hardly beautiful. Pretty like a lot of girls are. And I think the way she looked in Monster, is actuallty how she look's without all that fantastic make up on. It's obviouse.

Why don't you buy it? First off, no amount of makeup can convince me that she is anything special by way of looks. She has an ok face but pretty much cookie cutter. She is tall so maybe that is what convinces people. Actually, now that I think of it, it's probably the fact that people see Hollywood people as gods that convinces people. It's called brainwashing. Another thing I don't get is why you think people who look good in their adult years certainly did in their earlier years too. Have you never seen someone who as a child looks awkward and weird but grows into their features? Or the other way around, a super pretty kid who grows up to be fug? Hormones do strange things to people, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Theron probably was awky and gangly with an average face. Now she's statuesque with an average face. Go figure.
