Snow White Goes Goth!

The first trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman has been released! The film is a darker take on the classic fairy tale, which centers on an innocent girl, a hunter-for-hire and a jealous Queen.

Snow White and the Huntsman

When it comes to the Battle of the Snow Whites, Kristen Stewart's got a jump on the competition. Universal has released the first trailer for their adaptation Snow White and the Huntsman. And unlike Relativity's Mirror, Mirror, this version has a serious dark streak.

The trailer opens with the Evil Queen (played by Charlize Theron) sucking the life out of a defenseless, young girl. "Do you hear that?," the Queen asks. "It's the sound of battles fought and lives lost. It once pained me to know that I am the cause of such despair. But now their cries bring strength." Her cold response is followed by one of the most famous moments in Snow White's story.

The Queen approaches a beautiful golden mirror and begs the question: "Mirror, mirror on the wall: "Who's the fairest of them all?" It tells her that she's the fairest for now, but another is destined to surpass her. From that point on, the Queen is determined to destroy the "destined" girl, who's none other than Snow White, of course.

Snow White and the Huntsman features lots of Gothic imagery, which is a departure from most adaptations. The character starts off as a damsel in distress but becomes a warrior in her own right. Aside from Theron and Stewart, Chris Hemsworth co-stars as the Huntsman and Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Prince Charmant.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1.
