Mariah Carey has gained two beautiful children, 6-month-old twins Moroccan and Monroe Cannon, and has lost 70 pounds of baby weight. She appeared on The Rosie Show yesterday wearing a figure-hugging mini-skirt and tight black jacket, revealing her slim new-mom figure. How did she lose the baby weight?
Carey said the first 40 pounds were easy, but she had to work hard to lose the last 70 pounds. "The first week, I lost 40 lbs. … of just water," 42-year-old Carey says, revealing she struggled with edema and swelling. "It was just water, initially."
The singer had a Cesarean section, so she said she had to focus on diet instead of exercise early on. "The diet is 90 percent of it."
She followed the Jenny Craig plan (now just called Jenny) and stuck to a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet. Carey said that she made sure to eat healthy snacks regularly, including their 50-calorie soups.
Once she was cleared by her doctor, she started working out three times a week, including doing workouts at the beach and exercising with her dogs.
Don't ask Carey how much she weighs now, as she tries to stay away from the scale. "I never weighed myself," she tells Rosie. "People will think I'm a liar but it's true."
"I'm a big boned girl," she continued. "I'm tall and so I always weigh more. I would tend to go, 'Does this size dress fit me that I wore three years ago? I'm good, let's go.' I would go by what it looked like, how I felt."
What inspired her to share her weight loss story? "The whole point of this is not just like: 'Oh, hey, look at me and my weight loss, I'm fantastic.' It's really health. Like I said, I learned it when I became helpless and felt so vulnerable like never before in my life."
