Duggars Defend Going For Baby Number 20

Are you happy to hear the Duggar family is expecting baby number 20? See what Jim Bob and Michelle have to say about the criticism they're now facing.

The Duggars will soon have a new addition to the family, like it or not! As news of Michelle Duggar's pregnancy spreads, the family of TLC's 19 Kids and Counting finds itself defending its family planning choices.

Duggar family

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, pictured here with their 19 children, their daughter-in-law, and one of their two grandchildren, spoke with People to address the criticism of their family.

On finding time for each of their children:

"We homeschool, so we are around our children day in and day out," says Jim Bob, 46. "Because I am in real estate, I am home and can be with the children a lot. When we go to the store or run errands, we take the kids one on one and we get to spend more time individually than a lot of parents do."

On going for baby 20 after a "problem pregnancy" in 2009:

"There are many women who have experienced preeclampsia and have gone on to have more children. That whole mind set that you stop after a problem pregnancy isn't realistic," Michelle continues. "You may encounter struggles along the way. You may not have a perfect pregnancy, but each child is a precious gift."

On when to brush off the critics:

"There are a lot of good things we can learn from our critics," Michelle Duggar says. "We really believe we are following our faith and there are sometimes going to be people who don't agree and we aren't going to worry about the negative things stated. We are thankful for those out there who are happy," says Michelle, "and we are grateful for each and every gift of a child."

In reaction to Michelle Duggar's pregnancy celebrities have taken to Twitter. Comedian Sandra Bernhard quipped, "oh thank the lord i was beginning to worry the duggars were infertile," while reality show veteran Adrianne Curry commented, "I believe in zero population growth. Replace yourself&that's it. However, the Duggars seem to have replaced us all. #UnhealthyKidObsession."

I think this is a case of abuse against Michelle. She's been so brainwashed to become a baby factory that she doesn't even know it's so wrong on so many levels. The older kids have lost their childhood/carefree teen years by becoming parents before they finish elementary school. Shame on the Duggars! Michelle's body must be so messed up hormonally! Breastfeeding while pregnant, yet again! lets hear from some doctors on this one. How healthy is it to have baby after baby after baby...et al with NO recovery time? And yet Michelle presents to the public such a calm face and smiling every time. Come on, get real!

I see that all her oldest daughters hold the babies (ssss) more than the mother, (all other duties, such as feed, cook, etc.etc. too) poor daughters they went from children to mommies! michelle is robbing their teenage years.

Dear Michelle and Jim Bob. I do not understand why? another child at age "45" . I understand your love for God and children but after the last high risk pregnancy and health problems your new born child and family dealt with you would consider "abstaining" from having during your fertile period . I am sure after giving birth to 19 children you would "know when" you are fertile!!! I wish you a trouble free pregnancy(at age 45)and that you are blessed with a healthy child.

I for one congratulate the Duggars. I've read some pretty snarky comments about them elsewhere, usually by types who call themselves "pro-choice". The only "choice" they seem to respect is the "choice" to dismember the little ones in their mothers' wombs. If the mom decides to allow that baby to live and grow, well, her choice is met with much of the rancor and vitriol that we see in the very first comment on this post.

No, Michelle, a problem pregnancy is no reason to stop. You know what is a reason to stop? WHEN YOU HAVE 19 ------- CHILDREN. When the majority of the people you know came out of your ------ then yeah, it's time stop procreating.
