It comes as a surprise to, well, no one, that Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce from Kris Humphries after 72 days of complete wedding bliss.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian told SheKnows in a statement. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
The saddest part of this whole thing? Humphries reportedly found out about the divorce filing this morning! "Kris didn't know Kim was filing until this morning, right around the time we broke the story," TMZ head Harvey Levin tweeted.
Not surprisingly, Kardashian had a prenup agreement to keep her vast riches to herself. The divorce papers show just how short the marriage actually was, but the made-for-television duo is hardly the shortest celebrity marriage on the books.
A wild weekend in Las Vegas ended in a wedding -- and divorce -- between Britney Spears and childhood friend Jason Alexander. The couple wed in early January 2004 and divorced just 56 hours later.
"Plaintiff Spears lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage," the annulment petition said.
"There is no marriage now," said Spears' lawyer David Chesnoff said after the annulment was granted at Clark County Family Court. "Jason agreed to this completely. They've made a wise decision. I know they care about each other. They are friends."
Alexander spoke out about it at the time.
"It was just crazy, man," he told Access Hollywood. "We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it.'"
Silent film heartthrob Rudolph Valentino and actress Jean Acker married in November 1919 and the marriage reportedly ended six hours later when Acker kicked Valentino out of the honeymoon suite! They stayed married until 1922, technically making their marriage last three years.
Legendary actor Dennis Hopper married actress Michelle Phillips in October 1970 and they split just a month later.
"Seven of those days were pretty good. The eighth day was the bad one," Hopper remembered the wedding. Phillips remembered them as "the happiest eight days of my life."
Hopper reportedly kept his bride in handcuffs so she wouldn't run away. We can't understand why it didn't last forever and ever?
Legendary singer Cher is the tweetin' fool these days, but back in 1975 she was just a fool for marrying Allman Brothers Band musician Gregg Allman. The proposal was so romantic.
"One Sunday morning I woke up and she said, 'I got this Lear jet and Nevada ain't too far away. Why don't we get married?'" Allman said.
Cher cried all the way home from Nevada and they ended up with an annulment eight days later. "I believe it's best to admit one's mistakes as quickly as possible," she said of the marriage.
Well, she made the mistake again -- they got back together for awhile and had a son together, Elijah Blue.
