News of Kristin Davis' adoption has been officially confirmed! The Sex and the City star is now the mother of a baby girl she has chosen to name Gemma Rose Davis.

"This is something I have wanted for a very long time," Kristin Davis said to People magazine, who reports the baby girl was adopted domestically two months ago. "Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined. I feel so blessed."

Though Kristin Davis' adoption news is late-breaking, it's been no secret that the 46-year-old longed to be a mother. In 2010 she spoke about the possibility of adoption with Access Hollywood. "You have to obviously think it through," she shared. "Best case scenario, you're obviously raising it with a father. It does give me pause to think about doing it alone. I feel like it's a really hard job."

So far the hard work seems to be suiting Kristin Davis just fine. A source tells Us Weekly, "She's ecstatic. She wanted this for a long time."

Before the adoption of Gemma Rose the actress had the chance to play a woman desperately wanting a baby and ultimately choosing to adopt. Davis' Sex and the City character, Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and fictional husband Harry Goldenblatt adopted a fictional baby girl named Lily from China. Charlotte later went on to give birth to a baby girl named Rose.

Other stars recently opting to adopt children from the United States include Sandra Bullock and Denise Richards, both of whom are currently raising their children on their own.

Congratulations to Kristin Davis on Gemma Rose's adoption!

Congratulations Kristen! As an adopted child myself, domestic adoption is such a wonderful blessing for the child and for the adoptive parents. What a beautiful little baby girl. I echo Jennifer's remarks about the huge number of American children that need loving homes. I volunteer at my local hospital and am amazed at the number of foster children that come and in out. I believe in a woman's right to choose but I also urge women considering abortion to think about how many couples desperately want a child to love. Even if you know you aren't ready to be a mother personally, there are scores of families who want a child of any race. Adoption is a wonderful option.

Jennifer makes a very good point--there are a lot of children here in the U.S. that need homes. However, she should know that our court systems make it extremely difficult and incredibly expensive to adopt here in the states even in cases of children with special need. Not only that, because of cases like "Baby Richard" that set a presidence; parents who put their children up for adoption who have a change of heart can have the adoption reversed. A judge will always side with the birth mother in those cases and return the child to its natural parent(s). This has caused a number of adoptive parents to shy away from adopting from within the US.

I think it's awesome that Kristin Davis adopted a baby! She's comfortable with herself as an capable woman who has a can do attitude. I feel more couples should adopt in the USA; stop going out of the country like for example the Ukraine or China. There are so many children who need loving parents especially in today's society in this country.
