If you ever want to score an invite to George Clooney's Italian villa, you had best be comfortable with your body, because it is a rite of passage to wear nothing but your birthday suit when you jump in the gorgeous lake his home is situated near.
Clooney told US Weekly, "Skinny dipping is a tradition at my house. It's funny. Some people skinny dip but I always go upstairs and put a suit on and then I jump in the lake."
He elaborated in an interview with NY Magazine by saying, "Let me tell you, first we got Walter Cronkite to jump in. Then I got David Gergen to jump in. I used Walter Cronkite to get Gergen to jump in. Then I used Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood in the lake to get Charlie Rose to jump in. But really no, we weren't skinny dipping."
The actor's Ides of March co-star, Marisa Tomei, elaborated further on Conan O'Brien's show by stating, "We all wound up skinny-dipping. George said, 'When Walter (Cronkite) was there he jumped in the lake. Are you guys gonna jump in the first night?' "
She then revealed that, "Cronkite jumped in the water in a full tux, so the only thing to top that was to go the whole other way."
Apparently the straight-laced Charlie Rose instigated the entire adventure. Rose plays himself in The Ides of March, and co-stars with Tomei, Wood, Ryan Gosling and Clooney in the political thriller which opens today.
