Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed had 28 years of history behind them, two children and tons of issues. So it was with great surprise that on the last episode of last season's Gene Simmons Family Jewels that Gene popped the question to his longtime love, Shannon.
Said Gene when asked by his therapist how he felt at that moment, "I feel like I want to run off and dive off the pier. I remember thinking she could turn around and walk away." Shannon also had mixed feelings when she heard the words she had been waiting 28 years for. "I don't want him to propose because he had no choice. Was he doing it so I won't leave?"
In the end, Shannon didn't answer right away, but after a few tearful minutes said, "Who would want to marry an a**hole like you? I would, I would, you're so stupid!"
Later, Gene told Shannon, "If I'm lucky, I'll get to spend the rest of my life with you."
Right after their engagement, the two took a detour prior to heading home with their big news. They visited Gene's mom, Florence, at her Queens home. Gene wanted to get Florence's blessing on their great news. Said Gene to his son Nick in an interview segment, "I thought the best thing to do would be to see my mom. She needs to okay it because mom's not Jewish." The two tried to tell Florence about their announcement, but she seemed more concerned about the soup she wanted to serve them.
When Gene finally had his mother seated, he told her that he wanted to get married. Said Florence, "I always wanted you to get married. I always wanted you to have a family and you have the nicest girl in the world. Just be good to each other and love each other."
After finally arriving home to California, they found all their family and friends waiting for them in the kitchen, with a congratulatory party in the works. The best moment in the entire show came when the camera focused in on son Nick wearing a shirt that read, "No longer a ***."
Finally, it was time to begin to make plans, but as usual they have to be sandwiched in between Gene's KISS commitments. Will Shannon stand for being put second once again?
