Lady Gaga was supposed to premiere the newest video from her album Born this Way during MTV First: Lady Gaga, a special slated for August 18 that promised a live Gaga interview and a big announcement. Little Monsters everywhere were also anxiously anticipating Mother Monster's 1000th tweet, which would have a link to the You and I video.
After the video was leaked earlier this week, however, Gaga posted an expletive (to bring her twitter count to the magic 999) and then dropped the video early, tweeting, "YouAndIVideo. You must love all + every part of me, as must I, for this complex + incomprehensible force to be true."
So what's Lady Gaga's You and I video all about? "The premise of the video is that I've walked all the way from New York City to Nebraska to get [my man] back," Gaga told Omaha's Channel 94.1. "I'm walking with no luggage, no nothing. It's just me, and my ankles are kind of bleeding a little bit, and there's grass stuck in my shoes...
"It's the idea that when you're away from somebody you love, it's torture," she continued. "It's a very powerful and awful and strange feeling when you're away from the person that you love. I knew that I wanted to video to be about me sprinting back and walking hundreds of thousands of miles to get him back."
Of course, Gaga does more than just hoof it into town looking fabulous. The You and I vid offers her standard fare of dancing, torture, bondage, electrocution, simulated sex and religious overtones, as well as getups that range from man to mermaid.
SheKnows most enjoyed seeing the clean, straight-haired Lady behind the costumes (above), but as always, the costumes are over the top fabulous, whether Gaga is having a make out session with her chain-smoking male alter ego, Jo Calderone, or basking in a tub as Mermaid Yuyi.
