Wheelchair
Shock Value?

Lady Gaga has gone and riled up an advocacy group by performing at a concert in a mermaid costume, seated in a wheelchair. Sound bizarre? You better believe it!

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga was the recipient of some well aimed eggs on Monday night while leaving a night club in Sydney. What had one reveler riled up enough to hurl raw eggs at the singer? Apparently a performance in which Lady Gaga dressed in a mermaid costume and rolled around on stage in a wheelchair.

Reps for Lady Gaga, pictured here the night of the wheelchair performance, have yet to return SheKnows' inquiries into her side of the story.

However, a representative of the Life Rolls On Foundation had plenty to say about the incident. "I haven't seen Lady Gaga's performance, but respect her artistic expression as an artist," the rep tells Radaronline. "Since this isn't the first time she has used a wheelchair in her performances, I invite her to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis. They, like me, unfortunately, don't use a wheelchair for shock value."

"I extend a personal invitation to Lady Gaga to attend one of our Life Rolls On events where quadriplegics and paraplegics surf, skate, and snowboard, so she can see how much is possible beyond a wheelchair," the rep continued. "Maybe that will be most shocking to her of all."

While Lady Gaga is infamous for her shock and awe publicity tactics (need we remind you of the meat dress?), it's not yet clear what kind of message the star was trying to send by performing in a wheelchair. The egging incident and wheelchair performance occurred during a close timeframe, but have yet to be confirmed as related events.

What do you make of the Lady Gaga wheelchair performance and egging incident?

The more shock value these people have to use just shows me the less talent they have. On the other hand, Bette Midler could sing the phone book for me and I'd be thrilllllllled.

Better Midler has done that mermaid routine for decades. It's even part of her Vegas act. Lady Gaga is a blatant plagiarizer and now Bette is p'd at her. Read Bette's Twitter account. But you know Gaga will start crying if someone brings up that she stole it from Bette like she cried when someone said her last hit song was stolen from Madonna's "Express Yourself". I can't stand Lady Gaga, what an awful person. Her last album bombed and her 15 minutes of stealing her act from Madonna, Bette Midler, Cher, and Elton John are just about up.

She is a joke. Madonna did it better, Cher did it better, even Stevie Nicks did it better, and they could sing.

She is a joke.

So sick of her juvenile posturing, why can't she just sing or is she afraid that her average voice wouldn't stand up to that type of scrutiny? She is so yesterday. Madonna did it better, Cher did it better. Even Stevie Nicks did it better! She looks like a sad little mouse.
