You might recognize the salesgirl next time you're buying shoes in Great Neck, New York. Why? Because she'll be the one trying to get your attention with songs from Hairspray.
That's right: Nikki Blonsky, the girl who shot to fame as Tracy Turnblad in the 2007 adaptation of the Broadway musical, is selling shoes at the Steven Dann boutique in her hometown.
Insert joke about the recession hitting Hollywood here.
No, really -- we're not making light of Blonsky's situation. After all, she's at least doing something to make money instead of signing on for Celebrity Rehab with some drummed-up addiction.
Owner Steven Dann told People that Blonsky is working in his shop "as a fun thing for the summer" to keep her busy.
"She's really sweet to the little kids that come in the store," a source told E! News. "She even sings and dances for the customers, busting out the tunes from Hairspray."
Yeah, we'd buy a pair of shoes to see that -- much cheaper than a Broadway show ticket!
"She decided to try the gig for the fun of it," her rep told People. "And to support a longtime friend's local business."
Don't worry, Blonsky reportedly has more huge projects in the works. Her last show, Huge, was canceled by ABC Family last year.
