Russell Brand might seem like an odd choice to vote on the Oscars, but when you think about it -- why not? The actor with an affection for funny has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Russell Brand stretched his comedy to the big screen, taking on recent films like Hop and Arthur and he's currently working on Rock of Ages with icon Tom Cruise. Perhaps this made him a great choice to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Brand is among an elite 178 actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood names asked to be a part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
What does this mean for Russell Brand? Well, to put it in simple terms: He'll have the right to vote on flicks racing to win an Oscar.
Other names on the list to join Brand include Beyonce, who's had one heck of a year herself, Hangover Part II star Bradley Cooper, and husband and wife duo David Duchovny and Tea Leoni.
Nominees from 2011 added to the group include Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis and Jennifer Lawrence.
Famous directors added to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences group include Tom Hooper of The King's Speech. Writer Aaron Sorkin also made the cut.
Do you think Russell Brand fits nicely into the elite group? We think he's the right amount of funny to keep the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on their toes.
