Jeff Conaway loses drug battle

The sad, sad saga of actor Jeff Conaway is over: The actor passed away today at 60, according to TMZ. The website confirmed the news with the Grease actor's family.

Conaway died after falling into a pneumonia and sepsis-induced coma stemming from years of drug use. The actor battled substance abuse issues for years, a problem that Conaway tried to fight during his two appearances on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Initial reports were that the Taxi actor was improving after Dr. Drew tweeted about him earlier this week.

"Just visited Jeff Conaway," Dr. Drew tweeted. "He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead."

"Pneumonia with sepsis. No evidence of intentional OD."

However, an insider told E! News that he wasn't getting better.

"He's not getting any better. He was excessively using prescription meds."

Yesterday, Conaway's family opted to take him off life support, but his ex-girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, threatened legal action, claiming she has power of attorney.

"Vikki has the power of attorney and also has a living trust from 2007 that names her as a guarantor of the trust," a source told "The hospital has assured the attorney they won't do anything until they re-read the trust."

It looks like that didn't matter. So sad.
