Blues singer Etta James, whose love song At Last has serenaded millions of happy brides and grooms during their first dance, has been hospitalized for a potentially fatal blood infection.
The singer's son Sametto James said his mother was admitted to an unnamed hospital in Southern California to treat sepsis caused by a urinary tract infection.
The 73-year-old James also suffers from a host of other health problems, including dementia, leukemia and kidney issues.
"It was a really bad infection," Sametto told news sources. "Right now she's doing a lot better."
At Last, made famous decades ago by James, was sung by Beyonce for President and Mrs. Obama at the main Inauguration Ball -- making Beyonce the subject of a temperamental James' wrath.
"The great Beyonce," she said, "She has no business up there, singing up there on a big, ol' president day, gonna be singing my song that I've been singing forever. She's going to get her ass whipped. I can't stand Beyonce."
We're sure even Beyonce, who actually played James in Cadillac Records, wishes Etta James a speedy recovery.
