Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted that he is the reason for the breakup of his 25-year marriage with Maria Shriver. He has four children with Shriver -- and fathered another child with a household staffer 10 years ago.
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry," Schwarzenegger told the Los Angeles Times.
Shriver moved out of their Brentwood mansion earlier this year after she learned of her husband's affair and paternity of the child was confirmed.
Schwarzenegger has been providing financially for the child and continues to do so. The woman worked for the family for over 20 years, however, the names of the staffer and child are being withheld. The woman said in an interview that she told everyone she was pregnant with her then-husband's child to avoid suspicion.
Although Shriver has not commented, Schwarzenegger says: "I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."
