Lady Gaga: Mentor Extraordinaire

Lady Gaga is on deck to mentor the top four of American Idol. Read on to find out what unlikely theme she'll be schooling the contestants in.

American Idol's Haley Reinhart is about to come face-to-face with the monster songstress she channeled in last week's show -- Lady Gaga! Fox confirmed via Entertainment Weekly that Lady Gaga will serve as the final four's mentor!

Lady Gaga

Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and James Durbin must be shaking in their microphones right now! Not out of fear, but pure excitement! If anyone can bring out the perfect blend of voice and performance in the fresh, young talent of American Idol, it's Lady Gaga. She might be young herself, but she's brilliantly crafted a career based on both vocals and style, so we can't wait to see how she helps them raise the bar.

The only concern is the theme of the week -- the songs of Leiber and Stoller. We know, we were surprised too. Just to give you an idea of what that means for Lady Gaga and her American Idol students, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote some great classics, including Jailhouse Rock and Hound Dog. We smell a Scotty McCreery domination on this one!

Tune in Wednesday, May 11, to see Lady Gaga mentor the American Idol top four! How do you think she'll do with this interesting theme? We think Gaga can tap any resource to bring out the best in any young artist!

I know that Jailhouse Rock and Hound Dog may smell like a Scotty McCreery domination on this one, but look at what Haley Reinhart did with House of the Rising Sun - an old Animals hit. Plus, she's already sung a Gaga song. I'm kinda thinking this week has a Haley bias and I'm glad about that. It's the singer not the song that makes for the win. (P.S Nice column :-)

It was with some difficulty that I allowed myself to continue watching this program with Jennifer Lopez as a judge. Now, with the announcement that this person, "Lady Gaga", will be mentoring, the show has lost even more credibility. Bonus point: One is tempted to advise some of these middle aged performers, such as Jennifer Lopez, and Mariah Carey to go home, and put on some clothes. They too, are mentoring; but young girls, and negatively.
