Kara DioGuardi reveals molestation & date rape

Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has a life many women would kill for -- but she has had her share of bad times, too. In her new book, A Helluva High Note, the songwriter reveals she was molested as a child and date raped by a well-known record producer.

DioGuardi said she was first abused by a teenage family friend when she was only 11 years old.

"On one particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my breasts and vagina," she wrote. "I remember freezing and not knowing what to do."

Much later, when she was an adult and her career was beginning to take off, DioGuardi says she was date raped by a "fairly known producer" after they shared what she thought was a friendly dinner.

"Within a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating, and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand," she wrote.

Even though she repeatedly told him to stop she was afraid to fight him off because she thought he would become even more violent -- and never told anyone because she thought it would hurt her career.

Hopefully by sharing her once-secret pain, Kara DioGuardi can help other women suffering from horrific pasts to heal as she has.
