Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon are on baby watch, as their May 14 due date for their twin babies gets closer. In fact, Mariah recently was hospitalized for contractions so her babies may be coming sooner than expected! To help the couple out, here are five baby name suggestions for their twins (a boy and a girl) that we think would be perfect for the celebrity tots.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are expecting their twin babies-- a boy and a girl -- to arrive very soon. In fact, Carey was hospitalized briefly on March 27 (her birthday!) for contractions.

"I started having contractions last night... went 2 the hospital," Mariah tweeted. "They almost came on 3-27 -- happy anniversary indeed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: )"

Twin baby names for Nick & Mariah

Cannon has said they have some baby names in mind, but will wait until the babies are born before they make a definite decision. "I have vetoed a few names, but don't know until you actually see them in person," he said. "Maybe we'll come up with something new. We'll know on the day they are born."

He has also told E! online that he wanted names that would go well with their last name. "From the day we met, we picked out names...because ironically we had the same last initial -- Carey and Cannon," he said.

Butterfly inspired

Mariah loves butterflies-- in fact, she recently tweeted the picture below of a butterfly painted on her pregnant belly. With that in mind, some beautiful and unique baby names inspired by butterflies might be the perfect choice for them.

Nova is a girl's name of Native American origin meaning "chases butterfly," while Cassius is a boy's name taken from the beautiful Cassius Blue Butterfly.

A twist on their own names

Why not let their names-- Mariah and Nick -- inspire their baby name choices? Marah, a baby girl name of Hebrew origin, and Nixen, a baby boy name of English origin, might be a great way to mix up their own names to create a unique moniker for their babies.

"C" baby names

Nick recently said he liked the fact that he and Mariah have the same last initial of "C." Why not choose a baby name that starts with the letter "C?" Chloe and Cole or Coco and Cade might be fun choices for their twin babies.

Musically inspired

Mariah and Nick may choose twin names that have a strong tie to music. Why not Gita, a girl's name of Indian origin meaning "song," and the cool name of Jazz for their baby boy?

I think Maria and Nick should name their chillun'....(girl)-Marah Nova Cannon and (boy)-Nixen Cassius Cannon....I jus luv those names.

I don't know what source you used to get the meaning of Nova, but in Latin Nova means "new." The Latin word for butterfly is papilio. If someone is interested in an name that means butterfly, Mariposa (Spanish), Kimimila (Lakota), Paloma (Catalan), Flutura (Albania)... Also, Vanessa is a a genus of butterflies.
