Brand & Mirren make movie magic

The trailer for the remake of the 1980's comedy Arthur has debuted and whether or not you love it is going to depend on your love for Russell Brand.

I love Russell Brand with the fire of a thousand suns. He's hysterical, he's got great comic timing and every time I interview him, I have some crazy story to tell. Last time we spoke, he told me the definition of evil was wrapping cats up in dishtowels and calling them the baby Jesus. The first time we chatted, he sang me a song about my last name. The man is a riot.

Russell Brand is Arthur

Now, I understand that this is not everyone's opinion and your feelings about Arthur are going to depend on whether you get him or not. If you think he's that crazy bloke with the weird hair who married that chick who wears a cupcake bra like my dad does, then the trailer isn't going to wow you. That said, here's what we got to see when the trailer debuted today.

Arthur is the sole heir to a fortune and a bit of a spoiled brat. He's taken care of by his "nanny" played by the glorious Helen Mirren. He's being forced to marry Susan (Jennifer Garner), a woman he has nothing in common with. When he refuses, he's cut off and has to get a job. This is a man who has a music-playing replica of the solar system about his bed made of magnets and owns Batman's car. One of the funniest moments in the trailer has Brand in the Bat suit and his buddy/butler Luis Guzman in a very tiny Robin outfit.

If you like Brand's style of humor, then this casting choice was a no-brainer. In fact, the dialogue and the jokes in the trailer are so very clearly Russell that one would imagine there was quite a lot of improv during shooting. Check it out below and let us know what you think. Believe it or not, this man is about to play the Easter Bunny's son in Hop next.

Arthur will hit theaters on April 8, 2011.
