Conan O'Brien Talks Comeback

Conan O'Brien told Rolling Stone being fired from The Tonight Show was like being in a car crash.

If you need a lesson on how to turn lemons into lemonade, Conan O'Brien is your man.

O'Brien, who was unceremoniously dumped from his dream job as host of The Tonight Show by NBC when Jay Leno decided he wanted back in, turned a career humiliation into a career renewal -- because everybody loves the underdog.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Conan finally broke his silence on what the subsequent days and weeks were like.

"I felt like I'd just been in a car accident," O'Brien said. "Like a crazy mix of elation, anger, sorrow. Confusion was a big one."

The public immediately rallied around O'Brien upon the first hint of trouble with NBC, embracing a huge unofficial I'm With Coco campaign. When O'Brien quietly and informally announced a summer comedy tour on Twitter it sold out in hours with no traditional marketing effort.

Now Conan is gearing up for his new show and is fighting NBC for bits he sees as his own intellectual property.

"If there's something we did for a long time that we've established as ours, we'll figure out a way to do it," O'Brien told Rolling Stone. "I won't be denied my Masturbating Bear!"

"What I really wanna do is be sued over the bear and then appear in court with the Masturbating Bear. 'Your Honor, this bear can't help himself!'"

Conan's new late night talk show debuts on TBS November 8 -- will you be watching?

I am greatly estactic about you/conan finally coming back to being a great talk show host. There was something missing in nightime slot and it was you. I feel that you have a most exciting program when your'e on. It is one that has anticipaation of what is going to happen during the time you are on. I hope you have created much more for all of us in your absense. Please continue to give your best. Not everything you do is great but, I am very happy that you are so creative. You are a great talent and deserve to share it with the USA or any other place you are willing to share your talent. I hope that you, wife and child/ren are in the best and may you live long to give your best to your watching public. God bless you, staff and family. Peace and love, Urbano Anton Torres
