Carrie Fisher And Joely Fisher Mourn
Carrie Fisher and Joely Fisher grew up as daughters of 1950's pop singer Eddie Fisher. Now they're mourning his death after complications from surgery.
1950s pop star Eddie Fisher died Wednesday from surgery complications, he was 82.
Over the years, Fisher was known more for his high-profile marriages to Elizabeth Taylor and Debbie Reynolds than his music career. The marriage to Reynolds produced a famous daughter -- Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame. His later wife, Connie Stevens, gave birth to actress Joely Fisher and singer Tricia Leigh.
Late last evening the world lost a true American icon," the family said in a prepared statement. "One of the greatest voices of the century passed away. He was a true mensch."
Carrie Fisher was the first of his children to make it in Hollywood when she was cast as Princess Leia in Star Wars. She later went on to publish several books, including Wishful Drinking, an autobiographical look at her struggles with addiction.
Actress Joely Fisher is best known for her stints on the small screen, including roles in Ellen with Ellen DeGeneres and 'Til Death with Brad Garrett. She's also appeared in several Broadway productions and plays.
Fisher wrote several books about his past marriages to Taylor, Reynolds and Stevens. He may have fathered several talented children, but he had little positive to say about their mothers in various memoirs he released throughout his life. His last book, Been There, Done That detailed his various sexual exploits. When asked at the time, daughter Carrie expressed her outrage.
"That's it, I'm having my DNA fumigated," she said.
