On her way to pop dominance, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream sold 192,222 copies in its first week (her debut album One of the Boys only sold 46,767 by comparison) and has garnered the highest pre-album street date track sales of all time, selling 4.4 million digital tracks before the album was officially released.
In addition, her first two singles off the album, California Gurls and Teenage Dream, are both currently sitting in the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. Katy Perry is one of only ten female artists ever to have two songs in the top five at the same time.
Co-writing all of Teenage Dream's 12 songs, Katy Perry beat out former American Idol winner Fantasia's Back to Me, Eminem's Recovery (thereby ending his eight week run at number one) and Usher's Versus, for the number one spot on the charts this week.
Not only has she come out on top on the Billboard charts, but Teenage Dream has taken over the number one position on iTunes for both the album and title track.
Next week she will face competition from new offerings by Disturbed, the Goo Goo Dolls, Fabolous, Papa Roach and Lyfe Jennings. Will she be able to hold on to her number one status?
