Jodie Foster Backs Friend Mel Gibson

We didn’t think that it was possible but Jodie Foster just lost all of our respect.

Jodie Foster

Mel Gibson's agency dropped him like a tyrannical, bigoted, wife-beating hot potato, Leo DiCaprio smartly pulled out of his new directing exploit and anyone else with half a brain or even the slightest sense of morality has gotten as far away from Mel Gibson as possible. But Jodie Foster is sticking by her good buddy.

All we can say is: For shame, Jodie. For shame.

Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson have been friends for years and previously starred in 1994's Maverick. Recently Jodie directed and co-starred with Gibson in a dramedy titled The Beaver, about a man (Gibson) who develops a friendship with a hand puppet. Foster is currently working on the final cut of the film, and today the Motion Picture Association of America rated The Beaver PG-13 for "mature thematic material, some disturbing content, sexuality and language including a drug reference."

Is the disturbing content the fact that Mel Gibson is in it? Who in their right mind would see a movie starring that psychopath?

Let's recap, shall we?

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson has long been accused of racism, sexism, anti-Semitism (he denies the Holocaust happened and, hello, did you see The Passion of the Christ?), homophobia and, most recently, domestic violence. He thinks it's okay to say things like "wetback," "sugar tits" (when addressing an officer of the law), the unspeakable n-word, and to tell women they deserve to be hit in the face.

He's a monster -- one we will boycott until the end of time! We can't even watch Lethal Weapon anymore, that's how disgusted we are by him.

Summit, the movie studio behind The Beaver, is not, however. Although they have yet to set a release date for the film, reports, "It's probably not going to be something like two years from now, but they're not sure if it will be this year or next year. Jodie is committed to this movie."

Considering Foster came out as a lesbian in 2007 and one of the many things that Gibson has railed against includes gay people, we can't begin to understand how she can stomach to stand by anything that that man is associated with. He offends us to our core.

If The Beaver ever does see the light of day, it doesn't matter to us because we would rather hit a loved one in the face while they're holding our child than support anything Mel Gibson has been involved in.

Well, now she has just gone public still supporting Mel, post-abusive tapes. My apologies, you were correct about Foster.

Kai September 18, 2010 | 4:03 PM

The Headline here is so annoying deceptive about Foster. It actually still shows up in google searches as if Jodie backed him personally, in this incident. SHE MADE NO SUCH STATEMENT. Foster has not released any statement since the Oksana tapes. She made the film prior the tapes. I, for one, have been eager to see Kyle Killen's hot indie script in completion, and want to see Foster's direction, at this point in her career. I don't want to damage innocent people because of Mel's disputes with an ex, which surely these people did not witness or know when they made the film. He'd done about four years of rehab and had made Edge of Darkness already, when they went into production, so how can you blame Foster for not being aware of private spouse argument? The film is rumored to be very good, and I want to see it. There aren't many women directors, and I want to support the few who are working in Hollywood. Deceptive article, deceptive headline. Let's wait for the D.A. to decide.

Actually I think if I heard some of your private conversations you might seem like a psychopath - listen to the Christian Bale rant - which was in public! All of us have probably ranted out of control on the phone - especially in a bad relationship. Mel was just stupid because he should know that the Hollywood establishment was out to destroy him.

GetReal September 02, 2010 | 12:00 AM

Oh, and an OUTSTANDING, well-written, concise, and quite factual article. Thank you to the journalist!

GetReal September 01, 2010 | 11:58 PM

Oh My God, it seems like Mel Gibson himself has come on where to write about 20 different posts desperately defending himself. Let's just face the facts: Mel Gibson is the devil incarnate, and he adds nothing positive to the face of the earth. He's a waste of space. End of story.

I actually think Sasha is a good journalist. I find it so funny that all of you are calling her bigoted when she is reporting on a bigot. Makes you wonder why are you so defensive of a racist has-been? Perhaps you agree with his views on women, jews, minorities...insert group here that Mel Gibson hates! As Sasha says, shame on you.

Alastair Rosie September 01, 2010 | 11:44 AM

Sasha, Go back to school and actually study something like journalism, your research and journalistic skills are absolutely useless. Just another bigoted rant from someone who hasn't bothered to get off her back end and do some research.

Jodie Foster defended Mel Gibson by putting him in her movie! She cast him even though he had already expressed his bigoted, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-Semitic, and racist views many times before! This man just will not change and has no interest in changing his views. Therefore, I will never see another one of his movies EVER!

What? August 28, 2010 | 9:06 PM

Excuse me but were exactly is the direct quote of her standing by him? You do realized that Jodie filmed the movie BEFORE the scandal broke right? Otherwise that would make you a horrible "journalist". Where are the quotes?

John P, Slevin August 28, 2010 | 10:59 AM

As for how anyone should address an "officer of the law"..."sugar tits" is much nicer than "tax eating creep"...who among all those spewing comments on the most recent Mel Gibson matter really knows Mel Gibson or anyone else involved in the drama of the moment? Obsession with celebrity is not a good thing...far, far worse than offending a pig by calling her "sugar tits".

in disbelief August 28, 2010 | 9:08 AM

Oh, come ON now ... over the top bias with nothing but twisted half-truths ... and what's with the kingly "we" ... or is that your multiple personalities all talking at once.

Tony August 27, 2010 | 12:27 PM

How can anyone make these judgements on Mel Gibson? Ask yourselves, those who are, what it was that Okasana did to make him react like that, even assuming these tapes are a genuine conversation between them, and not doctored or edited to suit her. As for Jodie, she's said in the past that she would never comment on any dumb thing he said, and a friend is a friend, and they apparently are. I don't know them, I'm just a huge fan of both of these brilliant film makers. Can't wait for The Beaver. Have a Maverick poster on my computer room wall as well. What an idiot article this is, you're the one who should be ashamed for printing such rubbish.

This reminds me of a National Enquirer piece that baits readers with one-sided scandalous stories but has nothing in the article to back their statements. Where are the so-called statements from Foster or DiCapprio stating their views? Seriously, get off your high horse and stop judging Mel Gibson without seeing the whole story. This is America where you are supposed to be given the right to a fair trial and considered innocent until PROVEN guilty. Let's take a look at the history of this woman and other factors before jumping on a Gibson bash-wagon. I left a 10yr abusive marriage to a bi-polar control freak. I know it when I see it. After 28 years as a down-to-earth family man with NO incident you don't suddenly turn into a raging freak. People can only take so much and no one looks at what led up to his outburst. I respect Mel's work, I love all the Lethal Weapon movies, The Passion of Christ was tremendous (not sure why you were wagging your finger at this movie), and REGARDLESS of the "no-no" words he uses (umm, tell me that you NEVER say anything that could be considered offensive, especially when you're angry/upset)... I hope the new movie is a HUGE hit.

There are many erroneous statements made in this article. Do your homework before you bash someon - especially in print.

dawn hall August 27, 2010 | 7:27 AM

I like mel, I think he was used for his money. I think he said alot of things because he was hurt really bad by this women, that he loved so much.I think anybody could act crazy like that,if you knew you were being used by the one person, you thought loved you. Love makes you say and do crazy things!

Pat Kingsley August 27, 2010 | 3:25 AM

Wow, what a stupid article! Stop judging Jodie, you don't know her!

The Beaver August 27, 2010 | 2:50 AM

Poor Sasha! Don't worry, Jodie doesn't care about you... PS: There was no Jodie statement about Mel Gibson.

CK August 27, 2010 | 2:27 AM

What a ridiculous article! Jodie didn't make any statement about the whole Mel situation. Of course she is committed to her directing project like every director is and of course she wants to release it somehow. Other than that, the film was alredy being filmed (fall 2009) before the whole Mel trouble has started. Don't you have anything better to do than write such a pathetic article?!

tammi August 26, 2010 | 10:48 PM

Uh this article is misleading. You make it seem like she has come out with a statement defending him. She hasn't. Obviously she is not supporting his actions. She directed a film, it's HER film she's standing by. Unfortunately the bad timing of this incident has made it so the film can never see the light of day. What do you expect her to not support her hard work? Ridiculous.

Savanna August 26, 2010 | 9:41 PM

OMG...take the Lindsay Lohan drama. Who honestly cares? I don't want to see anyone off themself, but really, talent? I'd say she thinks she is Queen of life or Princess of Narcissism. Other than that, she is just a loss who shouldn't get hired again for yearrrrrrrrs. How really cares if she is in jail or out of jail or anything. Leave her alone for awhile, she will get normal and straighten out.
