Missed Bones in theaters? Lovely at home

Peter Jackson's big screen adaptation of Alice Sebold's award winning bestselling novel, The Lovely Bones, comes home on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download. SheKnows Entertainment presents an exclusive clip from the home video release.

Lovely Bones, now on DVD

Based on a 1973 true story, Lovely Bones follows the fate of 14-year-old girl Susie, who becomes the victim to serial rapist and murderer George Harvey (Stanley Tucci, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance).

Susie is on the verge of landing her first kiss, but one wrong turn and she instead finds herself stuck in The In-Between, watching over her family and friends as they struggle to come to terms with her violent fate.

A new friend from the other side tries to lure her to peace, but with her father (Mark Wahlberg) fixated on unraveling the mystery, Susie holds on to see that her killer is stopped.

While the book The Lovely Bones was a clear hit, Jackson's adaptation met with mixed critical reviews.

On the one hand, it earned a string of Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, AFTA and Academy Award nominations for being visually stunning with powerful performances.

Saoirse Ronan (Susie) and Tucci received raves, as did castmembers Susan Sarandon, Michael Imperioli, Rachel Weisz and Wahlberg.

Critics also seemed to agree that Jackson, the man behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong remake, nailed the thriller scenes as the tragedic tail unfolds.

Many critics, however, slammed the over the top visuals Jackson used to represent The In Between and felt the big screen production didn't do the book justice.

Some argued it simplified the story or called it preachy, while others were outright offended that Susie seemed happier in death than in life.

These reviews, along with some award season strategizing gone bad, kept the film from being the box office blockbuster one expects from Jackson.

With the recent release on DVD and Blu-Ray, however, you can take it home and judge for yourself. Come back and let us know what you thought!
