Jessica Bares It All!
Jessica Simpson’s cover of the May issue of Marie Claire magazine is certainly turning heads. The singer-turned actress-turned beauty advocate is not wearing any make-up nor were there any touch-ups allowed!
Simpson explained, "I don't have anything to prove anymore. What other people think of me is not my business." In fact, Simpson opted to go sans make-up to challenge preconceived notions of beauty. It sounds like Simpson's journey on her show The Price of Beauty has been a worthwhile one as she has admitted previously that she wasn't always this confident with her own appearance. She had always wanted something to fix. "There's always somebody who looks better; that's what we always compare ourselves to…So I think the journey really was finding what was beautiful inside of me and knowing that it's unique and rare. And it was a very powerful journey. It has definitely changed my life." In fact, The Price of Beauty is a positive way for Simpson to make her mark on society's harsh, sometimes impossible standards of beauty placed on women in our country. On the most recent episode, Simpson and her two BFFs, Ken and Cacee, ventured to Africa in order to explore Uganda's exotic tribe, Hima. Among zebras, giraffes and warthogs, they embarked upon a remote location and met up with an ambassador from the tribe. Get this -- the philosophy in their tribe is that "fat" is beautiful for women. The Hima tribe values women in the sense, "the fatter, the better." In an eye-opening experience, Jessica and Cacee met a bride who was preparing for her nuptials in a "fattening hut" for over two months to drink milk and "ghee" in order to actually gain weight! As Ken learned how to milk cows, Jessica and Cacee ate. They were later invited to participate in the tribal wedding and celebrate the tribe's definition of beauty where technically over here, being even slightly overweight is considered taboo. Kudos to Jessica and the Vh1 team for The Price of Beauty! more jessica simpsonJessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty |
