Once on DVD20. Once

Although listed as a musical by its producers, Once is pure movie romance in the story of a struggling musician and a single mother trying to make their way through the streets of Dublin.

19. An Officer and a Gentleman

Richard Gere became a star in An Officer and a Gentleman largely because of the film's unforgettable final scene where he carries Debra Winger off to the sounds of Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes' Up Where We Belong. The scene is romance incarnate.

Christopher Reeve and Mary Steenburgen star in a classic tale of love that transcends time. Before The Time Traveler's Wife, there was Somewhere in Time.

17. From Here to Eternity

Sure, there is the famous kissing scene on the beach, but what makes From Here to Eternity a classic is it is a sweeping romantic epic much beyond its passionate and iconic beach image.

16. Out of Africa

Meryl Streep and Robert Redford earn a spot on the top 20 romantic movies of all time if for no other reason than the famous hair washing scene. As Streep sits there and Redford washes her hair, women everywhere melt and men begin to get romantic ideas.

15. Cold Mountain

An Oscar-winning movie for the performance of Renee Zellweger, but, Cold Mountain is romantic because of the sparks generated by the chemistry exhibited by its two stars -- Nicole Kidman and Jude Law.

Twilight's Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson14. Twilight

Scoff if you must, but Twilight is much more than a vampire story. Ask any Twilight fanatic and they will tell you that the entire Stephenie Meyer series is a passionate romantic tale of two hearts who find each other despite their varying backgrounds. He's a vampire and she's not.

13. Dirty Dancing

Nobody puts Baby in the corner and we will not either. Dirty Dancing, even after two decades, remains one of the most enjoyable romantic movies of all time. Try to finish watching Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey having the Time of My Life and not smile.

12. Bridges of Madison County

Bridges of Madison County is the perfect romance that moves as slow as simmering passion. Clint Eastwood directed Meryl Streep in the book that set millions of hearts afire.

11. Chocolat

Johnny Depp feeding Juliette Binoche chocolate! Sign us up! This French-set romance is a fantastic example of how the French view romance and even in its simplest forms it is like making chocolate -- takes a lot of care to ensure sweetness.
