Super Celebrity Split: Say It Isn't So!

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins aparantly broke up this summer. SheKnows is never happy to report the end of a romance, but we're particularly heartbroken over the news that Hollywood's sexiest and most politically active couple, Sarandon and Robbins, have called it quits.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins"Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins, have announced that they separated," Sarandon's rep Teal Cannaday said in a release. "No further comments will be made."

The Academy Award-winning pair, who met while shooting the very sexy 1988 baseball flick Bull Durham, never married, but have two kids (Jack, 20, and Miles, 17 -- Sarandon also has a daughter, actress Eva Amurri) and appeared very much a perfect Hollywood couple.

In addition to being politically, socially and artistically active liberals, Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, have worked together on several projects, while seeming altogether unscathed by the trials of living in the Hollywood spotlight.

What more, they've maintained some serious sex appeal over the years. Sarandon, who is just as hot today as she was in the campy '70s flick The Rocky Horror Picture Show, may actually hold the honor of being one of Hollywood's first official cougars.

"He is a guy guy, and he is also 12 years younger than me," Sarandon said of Robbins in the UK Times back in 2004.

"I won't marry because I am too afraid of taking him for granted or him taking me for granted -- maybe it will be a good excuse for a party when I am 80. Our children and property bind us, but so does the battle. We fight strongly but fairly. I can't say that it is always comfortable, but he is my really good friend."

Sadly, the battle has come to an end, but SheKnows hopes the surprising separation still finds them good friends.
