For at least the second time in her young life, the daughter
of rock king Kurt Cobain will be living under the guardianship of the mother and sister of her deceased dad. While Courtney will no
longer have personal or financial control over her daughter, she keeps full power over Kurt's trust.
Courtney last lost legal custody of Francis in 2003 when she broke into her ex-boyfriend's house and overdosed on painkillers.
While the court documents do not detail the reasons behind the change, a lawyer for Courtney says she is completely clean and the decision was completely up to Frances.
"Courtney's been clean for years and is perfectly fine," says attorney Keith A. Fink. "This is simply about Frances preferring to live with her grandmother at this time."
"Frances is 17 and a strong-willed child, and this is a decision she made on her own," he adds. "No matter what, Courtney loves her daughter more than anything in the world."
People on the guardians' side of the fence are keeping mum. Said Geraldine Wyle, a lawyer for Frances, her grandmother and aunt, "This is a private family matter."
Frances will turn 18 in August 2010.
