VMA nominees announced

Beyonce Battles Eminem

MTV has announced its 2009 MTV VMA nominations. It's officially the dog days of August here in New York City. This means hot, humid days and long, starry carefree nights -- and yes, celebrity-filled awards shows are right around the corner such as the MTV VMA's! If the 2009 MTV VMA nominations are any indication, this year's VMAs show will be a spectacle.

Beyonce's Single Ladies video scores big-time VMA nominationsBeyonce and Lady Gaga cleaned up in the noms having each earned a total of 9 for next month's awards. Like her or not, Britney Spears cleaned up with 7 nominations herself. The three of them will compete for video of the year. Beyonce is up for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), Lady Gaga for Poker Face and Britney Spears for Womanizer.

They'll be duking it out with Kanye West with Love Lockdown and Eminem for We Made You. Awards will be given out on Sunday, September 13 by repeat-host Russell Brand. The MTV VMA show is MTV's most-watched program in terms of the awards and yes, we can't forget the antics.

You may recall a few years ago Britney and Madonna smooched on stage (would you believe that was 2003? Six years ago!). Her personal life hit the skids soon thereafter but she's making a comeback, hence the seven nominations. Britney Spears is currently touring while Lady Gaga's debut album hit the ground running. Her album, The Fame included the hit single Just Dance and it was also among the top five albums in America, Great Britain and even Germany!

All we know is the show on Sunday, September 13th will certainly be one to watch!
