Sean Penn explains wife's omission from Oscar speech

Robin Wright Penn and her newly Oscar-kissed hubby Sean Penn, who won Best Actor for his role in Milk, are in an on-again phase of their long and bumpy marriage. Reports last year had the couple splitting up due to Sean's alleged transgressions with Russian hookers.

The couple appeared cozy and happy on the red carpet of the 81st Annual Academy Awards -- as happy as Sean Penn ever looks, anyway. But some couldn't help notice that he did not thank his wife during his stirring acceptance speech, which he started by calling the Academy voters "Commie, homo-loving sons of guns."

When asked about the omission by Nancy O'Dell, Sean said the couple discussed it ahead of time and that "She knows" how he feels about her.

Sean found enough time to thanks a list of multiple supporters outside of his production crew, and throw props to fellow nominee Mickey Rourke, for whom a special award should be created for Comeback of a Lifetime.
