Live From New York
Amy Poehler played hooky from "Saturday Night Live" this week, but she had a great excuse -- she gave birth to her son just hours before she was to appear on the show.
Baby Archie Arnett was born Saturday weighing eight pounds, one ounce, said rep Lewis Kay. "Amy, Will (Arnett, Poehler's husband) and Archie are all healthy and resting comfortably."
Seth Meyes, Poehler's Weekend Update co-anchor, announced the news to a cheering studio crowd. "Amy Poehler is not here tonight because she is having a baby!"
The cast performed a special song-and-dance montage for the new mom at the end of the episode.
Poehler was hoped to revise her political rap in this week's episode after last week's appearance by vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
That may well have been Poehler's last SNLappearance -- she is due to leave the show this year and return to NBC in the spring starring in her own primetime comedy.
This is the first baby for Poehler and Arnett, who have appeared together in multiple projects including SNL, Arrested Development, Blades of Glory, and Horton Hears a Who!
