Jennifer Hudson is engaged!

As her first CD is set for release September 30, Hudson has another reason to celebrate this month.

Otunga, who has been dating Hudson for less than a year, is known for his performance on the reality show, I Love New York 2 where he received the nickname 'Punk.'

The boyfriend at Hudson's side throughout her American Idol run is no where in sight as this singer-actresses meteoric rise to Oscar winner has unfolded. The pair broke up soon after the show wrapped.

Hudson was asked for her hand in marriage on her 27th birthday this past Friday in Los Angeles by the reality star.

As for Hudson professionally after Dreamgirls, the actress wowed audiences with her turn as Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the wildly successful Sex and the City movie.

Audiences have not heard a note from her in full CD form since the American Idol competition and are eagerly awaiting her September 30 debut.
