As Stargate Atlantis moves into its fifth season, the team of intrepid explorers continues to face peril and uncertainty from within the vast reaches of the Pegasus Galaxy. Often, their adventures begin in their home base, Atlantis itself, a city built thousands of years ago by the highly evolved and mysterious Ancients. Atlantis is a treasure trove of fascinating, mysterious technology -- all of it wondrous... and some of it downright lethal.

The city of Atlantis is also linked to countless planets and human civilizations throughout the galaxy via the Ancients' network of stargates -- transport devices allowing interstellar travel. The team confronts terrible dangers as they travel among these foreign stars, including the Wraith, who survive by feeding on human life, dream of one day seizing Atlantis as a gateway to the rich feeding grounds of Earth.

John Sheppard & Ronan Dex of Stargate AtlantisAs Season five opens, Colonel Samantha Carter mounts a rescue mission to retrieve a missing team. She is then called back to Earth after serving only one year as leader of Atlantis. There is mixed reaction to the appointment of IOA representative Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo) as her replacement. His bureaucratic background will prove difficult for Lt Col John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), the team's military commander -- and best pilot -- and Sheppard's maverick style. The brilliant-but-prickly astrophysicist, Dr Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) will face some exceedingly difficult personal challenges, while Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell), the caring and quick-witted leader of the Athosian people, learns to integrate motherhood with her role as warrior. Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa), a warrior who lost his home and family to the Wraith, finds that his past will again return to threaten him; and chief medical officer, Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), will find help from a very unlikely source as she regularly finds her quiet confidence tested by the wonders of the Pegasus galaxy.A provisional relationship with the Wraith takes an unexpected turn, and new adversaries will test everyone's courage and resolve.As ever, the Atlantis team must confront its standing enemies, continue to forge new alliances, and delve deeper into the mysterious of the Pegasus Galaxy.
