Dads all across America are falling asleep — at soccer games, school performances, parent-teacher conferences, church masses, ballet recitals and sometimes at the dinner table. Apparently, things aren't all that different across the pond, at least not for father of three Prince William.
Although he told reporters at the Anzac Day Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving on Wednesday that his newborn son is sleeping "reasonably well" and his family of five is "in good form, luckily," the Duke of Cambridge seemed to nod off during the service at Westminster Abbey. Oops! He surely received a scolding for that.
People posted a video to their Instagram showing Prince William sat beside Prince Harry's fiancée, Meghan Markle, clearly struggling to maintain his energy levels during the service. Check out the blinky eyes. Prince William is all of us in our early morning classes and at über-long work meetings.
We can't stop watching this video. This poor, sleepy, balding man. It's OK, Prince William. People's caption is so appropriate. "Life with a newborn," they wrote, complete with the necessary emojis.
According to InStyle, Prince William was "all smiles" as he chatted with Markle and the crowd before entering the church, but once he sat down, all bets were off. Prince William currently has a newborn, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old at home. Sleep is probably hard to come by, and Westminster Abbey's high-backed cushioned chairs look just comfy enough for a nap... especially since church services are usually nice and toasty.
Of course, this isn't William's first totally relatable, totally hilarious, totally awkward public moment, nor do we suspect that it will be his last. On a ski trip to Verbier, Switzerland, in 2017, he was caught on camera doing some kind of... arm... dance? We're not entirely sure what to call it, but it was peak dad...
... and so was nodding off in church, but we have some questions. What happened after this cameraperson stopped filming? We see Prince William jerk himself awake in the video, but did he fall asleep again and drool a little bit? Did he snore just loudly enough to startle himself awake? Did Meghan Markle nudge him with her elbow?
Maybe we'll never know, but we do know this: we're desperate to know the name of royal baby No. 3, which Kensington Palace has yet to announce as of this writing.
