Schumer is reportedly in negotiations to star in Sony's upcoming live-action Barbie movie about a doll who doesn't feel she belongs in Barbieland.
Of course, as soon as the news broke, trolls began to spew hate on Twitter.
@amyschumer Barbie?? Better lose a lot of weight for that role!— Live life honestly (@DavidHase1) December 2, 2016
@GodfreyElfwick "Barbie Goes to Fat Camp" starring Amy Schumer.— Buck Buckelson (@BuckyBuckBuck1) December 2, 2016
If Amy schumer gets to be casted as Barbie, I can be casted as Morgan Freeman. Because none of this makes any sense.— annunaki queen (@XOKATANA) December 3, 2016
Clearly, these people haven't stopped to actually think before vomiting up their hate because Schumer is absolutely, 100 percent perfect for this role. First of all, she's gorgeous, curves and all. She has those big blue eyes and the blonde hair. But more importantly, she represents a real woman in a real world. She triumphs for the everygirl in her comedy in a time where Barbie needs to step up and do the same — not for the sake of feminism or any of the popular buzzwords these days, but for the generation of little girls who are wondering what their future looks like. The Barbie who is too skinny to be a real person and whose world is filled with dresses and material possessions is a Barbie of the past.
Luckily, there are people who aren't close-minded who were excited for Schumer.
@amyschumer I just heard you were going to be Barbie!! Every little girl will love to see you be her- please don't listen to rude tweets!— Claire Cooper (@Clairecnz) December 5, 2016
Personally, I think a Barbie movie with Schumer at the forefront would finally be a Barbie movie parents could champion for their daughters.
