You can blame Scientology for Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Kirstie Alley's sad feud

Sarah grew up in Monterey, CA and now lives in Los Angeles. When she's not writing, you can find her enjoying a good book, fine wine, sunflowers and long walks on the beach.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy became tight when they were partnered up on Dancing with the Stars back in 2011, but it's been no secret for a couple years that their friendship is all in the past.

Though Chmerkovskiy has spoken about the rift publicly several times and it's been widely speculated as to what caused their falling out, he's never come right out to say what the true source of their shattered relationship is — that is, until now.

You see, it turns out there is one entity that Chmerkovskiy can place solid blame on: the Church of Scientology. He has officially been shunned by the controversial religion.

"Scientology happened," Chmerkovskiy answered when Us magazine asked why he isn't friends with Alley anymore. "You can thank [my friendship with 2013 contestant and former Scientologist] Leah Remini for that. A note was sent to a friend telling me I was 'disconnected,' as in, I am no longer allowed to be Kirstie’s friend. I find it ridiculous for an adult human being to 'disconnect' from someone. But everyone is entitled to their own insanity."

Remini, as you may remember, famously ran screaming from Scientology a couple years ago and has been steadily exposing the horrors she experienced while involved with the religion ever since.

But just because Chmerkovskiy is officially "disconnected" from Alley at this point, that doesn't mean they are over for good. He also told Us that the estranged people in his life always have a way of finding their way back to him in the end.

"I may turn off a bigger percentage of people than I keep around," he said. "But over a period of, let’s say, 10 years, people all come back in some way, saying, ‘Hey, we haven’t spoken in a decade, but I understand where you’re coming from, and I want us to continue being friends.’ I have a 100 percent return rate."

What do you think? Is there still hope for Alley and Chmerkovskiy's friendship or has Scientology come between them for good?
