Drew Barrymore sounds like a ray of sunshine in anyone’s life — at least according to her ex-sister-in-law, Jill Kargman. Even though Barrymore’s marriage to Will Kopelman ended last year, his sister still thinks the world of her.
In Kargman's memoir, Sprinkle Glitter on My Grave, she wrote of Barrymore, “She is a delightful, happy mirror to our familial morose dark side, and the perfect yin-yang of California sunny outlooks versus our wintry dark humor.”
The book, which went to print right after the couple’s divorce, addresses their split directly. Kargman wrote, “Even though she and Willie went splitsville just as this book was going to print, we are forever sisters. Bottom line: She is a Technicolor flower child bouquet of a person, and a welcome kaleidoscope of hues that infused our Addams Family with optimism and light.”
In interviews, Barrymore has always come off as a sweet, calming soul who doesn’t have anything mean to say about anyone. She’s always laughing and playful, but she’s also an actress, so that whole thing could be a persona. Instead, it’s great to hear that the way she acts in public is a genuine representation of her.
It’s also incredible that Kargman gave Barrymore such a touching shout out in her book. She had the option to scrap any mention of Barrymore. She didn’t have to say anything at all if she didn’t want to. But the fact that she did says a lot about Kargman. It proves that she is a woman who fully supports other women and who knows that relationships with people are more important than temporary pain.
Barrymore hasn’t responded yet to the kind words written about her, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she acknowledges it because it is so sweet and genuine.
If we have to have half of marriages end in divorce, then can we please have more friendships like this post-divorce?
