The new season of Teen Mom OG will soon be upon us (premiering Aug. 6 on MTV), and the recently dropped trailer promises the usual chaos — although we've already seen much of it play out in the media. Maci Bookout's engagement and third pregnancy, Amber Portwood's ongoing relationship with the odious Matt Baier, Farrah Abraham's non-relationship with Simon and Catelynn Lowell's struggle with postpartum depression and ensuing stint in rehab will all be featured.
But rest assured, there's plenty we haven't seen yet: Abraham flouncing around in a sparkly jumpsuit, Leah Messer gleeful at the idea of Portwood and Baier getting married, Bookout taking a pregnancy test and Tyler Baltierra yelling at Lowell.
To be totally transparent, I am in no way Baltierra's biggest fan. He's been super-arrogant, uncooperative and dismissive of Lowell's feelings. He's fat shamed her. He seems to think jobs/careers/college are for people other than him. It took him way too long to catch on to that whole "parenting isn't just the mother's job" thing. And in the Season 6 trailer, he thinks telling Lowell that even though she thought she was ready to be a mom, "it's not working." Cool. Way to support your partner, dude.
Lowell does a lot of crying in the trailer, saying that she's not OK, that she needs help and that she doesn't need to get shamed by Baltierra, ever. There is a later shot of Baltierra hugging Lowell and telling her he loves her — but I'm so over it, you guys. Maybe show her that you love her by doing some parenting and stop making her constantly feel bad about her anxiety and depression. (Remember last season when he told her to stop saying she was going to be on medication for the rest of her life? What if she does need to be on it so she can have a better quality of life? Stop being gross, Baltierra.)
Look, obviously, the trailer is compiled so the season looks as dramatic as possible; but based on his previous behavior, I have zero trouble believing that Baltierra is going to be a jerk when Lowell needs him the most. I hope I'm wrong because Lowell and her daughter Nova and everyone watching this show deserve a whole lot better.
