Tonight I realized my living situation is actually a lot like Sister Wives

OK, so maybe the 'sister' part of Sister Wives isn't so bad after all

Sister Wives made me come to a startling realization about my own roommate situation tonight.

I live with one of my best friends and her boyfriend.

Note: We are not sharing a man.

We're not even a little bit sharing a man. Nothing but platonic friendship exists between me and her boyfriend. I've got a boyfriend outside of the living situation that is all mine and I am all his, thank you very much.

I thought I would just get that one out of the way before the comments started pouring in.

But what I mean about my roommate and me is that we share a lot of other similarities to the sister wives. And it kind of made me realize why the polygamous setup would be appealing to these women.

My roommate and I share the cleaning responsibilities. We have family breakfasts together. We even help raise each other's children. And by children, I mean dogs. We have two loving dogs that are our furry babies.

More than helping each other around the house, though, we help one another navigate life together. As 20-somethings, it's all about self-discovery at this phase in our lives. We support one another through all of our struggles, work and personal relationships. And, yes, sometimes we fight like sister wives, as the case may be, but that just makes our relationship even stronger.

I would be lost without my roommate's advice, and I hope she would say the same.

Let's be real, sometimes I'm too emotional and in my own head about things. I think that's part of being a woman for ya — we are emotional, intuitive creatures. It's nice to have another woman, separate but not totally removed from the situations in my life, who can weigh in on my decisions. I need that, along with a bottle of wine, of course.

It's comforting to have other women around supporting one another. I know those ladies are vital in my life, and if Robyn, Christine, Meri and Janelle Brown feel like they're going to get that by sharing a man, then more power to them.

I, on the other hand, am happy to just share the sister part of the sister wives situation.

Do you understand the appeal of having women to lean on like the sister wives or does the situation creep you out completely no matter which way you look at it?
