Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are an adorable couple, sometimes nauseatingly so. Their chemistry made Season 9 of The Voice incredibly entertaining and, even now, the two are super fun to watch whenever they're together. That is, until they start singing. As amazing as these lovebirds are when they perform on their own, they just couldn't capture the magic of their relationship onstage tonight.
I certainly had high hopes for Shelton and Stefani, especially when I learned that they were about to perform the highly anticipated song "Go Ahead and Break My Heart." I figured Shelton would be his usual country-crooning self — and I was interested to see how Stefani would tackle the number. But when the live duet began, I realized that having these two sing country together on The Voice may have been a bad idea.

Honestly, I would've enjoyed the duet a lot more if I'd just put my television on mute. Watching the two together was enjoyable because they are so clearly head over heels. But even true love can't make two very different voices mesh. Throughout the course of the performance, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was not quite right. For some reason, they just sounded awkward together.

Any time Shelton and Stefani are seen together on television, fans of the superstars are bound to be happy. Viewers are so eager to see these celebrities together, they don't realize when they aren't living up to their full potential. Either that, or I just don't know when I'm hearing a rocking duet. Either way, plenty of viewers clearly disagreed with my assessment of Shelton and Stefani's duet.

Although many viewers spoke highly of Shelton and Stefani's performance, others clearly agreed with me. In fact, some were far more critical of the power couple than I could ever be.
All of these people talking how awesome Blake and Gwen's duet was are obviously tone deaf.. They were off key, awkward, & forced. #TheVoice

I really do enjoy seeing Shelton and Stefani as a couple and I believe they have a bright future. I just couldn't get into their duet on The Voice. Fortunately, I'm sure the show will eventually give them the opportunity to redeem themselves.
