Arrogance bites cocky Survivor castaway in the butt

With Ryan, there's never a dull moment. He's a self-described goofball with strong passions for family, traveling, scary movies and reality TV. Halloween is his favorite day of the year, and he celebrates every fall by working at one of ...

Survivor: Kaôh Rōng proves overconfidence can be a strategic curse

Ah, there's nothing more refreshing than a true Survivor blindside, especially when the victim is an arrogant turd. Nick, who shares a 22-day record with Michele of going the longest in the game without a visit to Tribal Council, bit the dust in a surprising move that caught Mr. Arrogant off-guard.

His ouster was heavily celebrated on social media.

His downward spiral was days in the making as the women were getting fed up with his oozing overconfidence. "The jocks and the pretty people, they're not gonna sit pretty forever," Aubry declared early in the episode. "They age and get over-ripe, and then they're done. Eventually, the misfits get revenge."

That revenge came at the hands of Cydney, who got the tides turned against Nick and her own alliance. It all started when Nick questioned Julia about there being fears an all-female voting block was forming. Of course, he wasn't worried about it. Not at all. He was only asking her so he could squelch the concern of Jason and Scot. Yeah, sure. After Julia reassured him there was no women's alliance, he trotted back to camp and publicly whispered to his pals, "Nothing. We're good." Cydney caught his cocky whisper and called him out for his "suspect" behavior. Whoops. Somebody like that never seems to win the game.

With Tribal Council looming, Nick was certain his alliance of seven was going to split the vote between Aubry and Debbie, with the latter being the prime target. He took that information to Aubry and used his arrogance as a strategic ploy to point her in what he felt was the right direction by suggesting she toss her vote against Debbie. "This is not typical of me to reveal my true self, but hey, if no one's gonna take advantage of Aubry, I will," he explained. "When you're at your weakest, I'm right there for you."

Moments before the voting began, Nick shoved both feet in his own mouth by gushing how his allies were dividing the ballots between two people. But as the votes were tallied, the smug smile sank from his face, as Cydney had flipped the game on him. She had convinced the cautious Julia and Michele to join forces with her and the former Brains members to send Nick packing.

"I was beyond confident tonight," Nick said in his final words as the credits rolled. "This was a blindside for sure. I just didn't see what they were pulling. I have to give them props for that. I'll still be overconfident, cocky and arrogant, but I should've punched before they did. I just didn't. That's all."

Remember, these are the words Nick first uttered when he was introduced as a member of the Beauty tribe: "My life has definitely been easier because I'm better looking than most people. That sounds terrible. It sounds awful, but it's the truth. My looks will definitely help me 39 days and a million bucks in my pocket at the end."

Seriously, dude? Give it up. Being confident is cool, but overconfidence does nothing more than make you a jerk. Debbie summed it up perfectly as she voted against him. "Overconfidence is a weakness."
