As Survivor delivered its most boring episode so far this season, I tweeted hope that something would happen to make things more exciting.
This episode of #Survivor has just been meh for me. Nothing exciting whatsoever just yet. Anybody agree? Hopefully it gets better fast.— Ryan Haidet (@RyanSurvivor) March 24, 2016
My wish was granted.
As Tribal Council was unfolding, strategies changed by the second, with schemes being whispered from all flame-flickering corners of the Cambodian set. It started with Tai and Scot quietly agreeing to stick to their original plan to target Peter. Aubry, who clearly went into the vote against Julia, was suddenly second-guessing her decision by asking Joe if they were making the right move.
It was Tribal Council chaos.
I loveeee when decisions are made at tribal. #survivor— Alexis Maxwell (@alexis_maxwell) March 24, 2016
That tribal council was absolutely nuts! I love it! #Survivor— Brock Masters (@BrockMasters24) March 24, 2016
Even as the votes were about to begin, Aubry still looked puzzled about who she should cast her ballot against, asking Joe what move to make. The amazing editors creatively showed Aubry's strategic struggles as she stood at the voting urn staring blankly at the parchment.
In the end, we saw her write Julia's name down. But when the votes were read, something was different. Aubry had crossed out her vote against Julia and scribbled Peter's name below it.
AUBRY JUST DID THAT!!!!!!!! #survivor— notshambo (@notshambo) March 24, 2016
Many viewers have been asking if this moment is a Survivor first. Eh, kind of. Something similar happened during Season 1 involving Gervase's vote in the merge episode. He had initially voted against Greg, but crossed out the name and wrote Sue instead. The difference between this instance and what happened this time around is that Aubry's vote actually made an impact. Her decision change is what ultimately sent Peter packing. Had she kept her vote for Julia, it would have triggered a tie. Gervase's vote made zero influence on his Tribal Council's outcome, as the majority opted to give Gretchen the boot in Survivor's first big blindside. Technically speaking, Aubry's vote change made true Survivor history by becoming the last-minute factor that nudged Peter out of the game.
It really was a fun moment to watch. Thanks for that, Aubry!
Meanwhile, Twitter has fallen in love with poking fun at Debbie. Have you noticed all the times her job title has changed on the show? Model, anyone?
