Lowell says that a meeting between her baby, Novalee Reign, and her oldest daughter Carly — who Lowell gave up for adoption six years ago — was all it took to quell the vicious panic attacks she had been experiencing since Novalee's birth and all throughout planning her wedding.
"We went to the beach, so we were feeding ducks with bread. Carly just wanted to hold Nova immediately and be like, 'Can I feed her? Can I hold her?'" Lowell told People magazine of the first time Novalee and Carly met, adding that Carly "kept showing Nova to everybody and saying, 'This is my birth sister.' It was so cute... After that day, I felt perfectly fine again."
Lowell previously talked about her postpartum depression at a book signing in late 2015.
"I recognized it nine months after [Novalee] was born. It's a daily struggle," she said, adding that she dealt with it by getting up and exercising, and now-husband Baltierra, of course, was always there to support her.
Depression is not new for Lowell, who revealed in 2014 that she had been struggling before the birth of her second daughter.
"My depression and anxiety were so severe, I didn't want to live another day," she said in an interview with InTouch magazine. "I started having severe panic and anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, which led me into a deep depression... I couldn't stop crying. I felt I'd be better off dead. I needed help."
Baltierra recognized the signs of depression and got his then-fiancée the help she needed. Lowell claims he called a psychiatrist following one of her reportedly terrifying breakdowns and helped her realize she needed treatment.
Now in the first days of 2016, Lowell and Baltierra are busy celebrating Novalee's first birthday.
"Novalee your daddy and I love you beyond belief! You made this year even better! Happy birthday!" Lowell captioned an adorable Instagram post on Jan. 3, 2016.
Here's to an awesome 2016 for Lowell and her entire family.
