In a clip from Teen Mom OG set to air Jan. 4, Portwood gets a call from Shirley with news that no mom wants to hear — their seven-year-old daughter Leah doesn't want to come over to her house.
Since Portwood and her ex are on less-than-friendly terms, she isn't sure whether to believe him. "Something's going on," she tells her fiancé Matt Baier, "I hope he's not saying shit to her. I think he's getting scared because I said that shit about custody. If I ever find out he's saying shit to her, it's on."
Shirley has had full custody of Leah since 2011, but the upcoming season of Teen Mom OG will follow Portwood as she seeks joint custody of their daughter. "I've been out [of jail] for three years, and I'm sober," Portwood said in a preview for the series. "I want joint custody." Portwood was sentenced to five years in prison for drug possession combined with other charges, including domestic violence towards Shirley. She was released after a reduced sentence in November of 2013.
In March, Portwood told People that that she was getting better at sharing Leah with her ex. "We're co-parenting the best we can. It's not perfect and he still gets on my nerves, but we're happy with the people we're with."
