Star Wars: The Force Awakens fans finally get an answer to #WheresRey

From SheKnows Australia
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a brilliant film — some may go so far as to say it's J.J. Abrams' masterpiece — but when it comes to the merchandise, something's seriously lacking.

Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, is one of the main characters and the heroine of the film, but for some reason her figurine was left out of the six-pack of Star Wars figures that recently went on sale — and fans wanted some answers!

The box includes Chewbacca, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, Finn, a Stormtrooper and an unnamed fighter pilot, but no Rey, which sparked online criticism and the creation of the hashtag #WheresRey.

But Disney has since commented on the omission of the character in a statement to The Daily Beast.

"We expect fans to see more of her as new products roll out, now that the film has been released," Target spokesman Lee Henderson told the publication. "We don't want to spoil any surprises, but fans will start to see more of her in 2016."

And Disney's senior vice president and head of licensing for Lucasfilm, Paul Southern, also told the publication that fans can expect to get their hands on a Rey figurine in the near future.

He said, "Rey and Phasma feature prominently across hundreds of products, and are selling exceptionally well. In many stores and e-commerce destinations, products featuring Rey are selling as quickly as retailers can restock shelves. Fans will also be seeing a lot more of Rey with a new wave of product coming in January."

No details yet on what the figurines will look like, but we're pleased that Rey has been included in the merchandise.

Rey may not have been available in the initial merchandise rollout, but the fact that Disney was called out for not doing so is a good sign. Social media is a powerful tool, and this time it highlighted the importance of inclusion and fair representation for all.
