In the statement, David said, "I have always had and continue to have the utmost respect and love for Yolanda, which is why it is so frustrating to see headlines questioning her chronic debilitating illness."
He added that he has "been by Yolanda's side over the past four years to the best of [his] ability as she battled with the complexities of her Lyme diagnosis." He also went on to say how he's proud of Yolanda's determination to find a cure and her mission to change things for others who are going through what she's going through.
From the sound of things, David and Yolanda are on pretty good terms right now, which is good! We want that! And of course, the fact that David is coming to his wife's defense about the seriousness of her disease is good, too, as a few people — cough*Taylor Armstrong*cough — have been publicly questioning it.
But, there's one kind of weird thing here: The fact that David is divorcing Yolanda right now. Period.
If Yolanda is as sick as she and David claim she is — which it certainly seems that way — how can David leave his wife in good conscience? When she's at her lowest point? It certainly sounds like this is more David's doing than Yolanda's, and no doubt the pair could have had problems beforehand, but leaving someone when they're seemingly fighting for their life seems so cold. I feel like there's more to the story here that we're missing. Something doesn't seem right.
The important thing — for now, at least — is that things between Yolanda and David are amicable, and there doesn't appear to be any heated media war between the two of them in the near future. But, it's a little hard not to think that David dug himself a bit deeper by reiterating how sick Yolanda really is. Not sure if he was making an effort to clear his name or come to Yolanda's rescue, but either way, it makes him look a little shady. After all, doesn't Yolanda need David more than ever now?
