Like a lot of you, I first noticed Chastain in The Help where she played Celia Foote, a country girl trying hard to fit in with the ladies of society in 1960s Jackson, Mississippi. She played Celia so well, you couldn't help but feel sorry for the woman. Her performance garnered her a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination.
She blew me away in Zero Dark Thirty, playing CIA agent Maya, whose relentless pursuit of Osama Bin Laden eventually lead to his death. For this role, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. It was during this time that I actually had the chance to stand next to her, where I almost ran face first into her mother. Sorry!
Her current flick, Crimson Peak, is a dark movie about a creepy house, and it looks like it’s not for the faint of heart — which means I can't go see it.
Scary movies aside, Chastain has a sense of humor in her posts, taking to social media with Bryce Dallas Howard over the summer to remind people they are in fact, not the same person, or each other. They both starred in The Help, they both have red hair and they do look like they could be sisters. It’s refreshing they find humor in the fact that they are constantly mistaken for each other.
While in Prague for her Rebel Heart tour, Madonna pulled Chastain on stage and both of them chronicled the moment on Instagram. Chastain also posted a short video of Madonna singing "Like a Virgin." Our shared love of Madonna is another reason I have a crush on Chastain.
Hanging out on stage with Madonna is just one example of her glamorous life. She also drinks wine while flying on private planes with her friends, and even though that’s the case, she is extremely down-to-earth and expresses her gratitude often by posting beautiful photos with heartfelt messages. She also posts adorable pictures of her little dog, Chaplain. In her feed right now are lots of photos of her with animals including parrots, kangaroos, giraffes and baby lions — the fun of playing the zookeeper’s wife.
She recently posted a photo of herself reading Diane Keaton’s Then Again, poolside. Coincidentally, I’m reading the same book, so now I have to heart her even more. Not only that, but her pool attire was a long-sleeve rash guard and a hat — which is exactly what I wear to the pool. While it’s safe to say she was trying to stay incognito, I don’t have that excuse.
This week, Chastain was named the honorary chair at this year's Film Independent Spirit Awards. Along with Crimson Peak, Chastain is also currently starring in The Martian with Matt Damon. She is an animal lover, a lover of life and I can’t wait to see what photos she shares with us next!
