Kim Fields makes her RHOA debut — what should viewers expect?

Apparently, Real Housewives of Atlanta was lucky to get Kim Fields.

The former star of Facts of Life and Living Single has been approached over and over by producers, she told E! News, but she never said yes until she was approached about joining the cast of RHOA.

"We've been asked to do reality TV for years, and it just wasn't the right timing, right opportunity," she told the site, just before making her Sunday debut on the reality series.

She continued, "It's such an adventure. It's something different. If you're going to look up and celebrate 40 years of doing something, at this point, for me at least, the next logical progression is what's challenging? What's new? What's different?"

As for what fans should expect from Fields on her first season on the show, she said she plans to go with the flow as much as possible, even though RHOA can be more than a little volatile.

"I don't think it's fair to go into any environment armed with, 'Oh, this is already going to be this.' Just go in with an open mind, an open heart," she shared. "Now, go in with wisdom so you don't get your head knocked off as soon as you hit the door!"

E! News reports that Fields will appear this season alongside her husband and two children. She doesn’t want the show to affect her family, however.

"I'm very, very, very protective of my family, of my marriage, of my parenting,” she said.

On the other hand, Fields seems to think some of the show’s drama isn’t quite as real as it may appear onscreen, and she thinks audiences know that.

"Audiences are so smart now.” she said. “They know what is puffed-up fodder that is dredged up just for the purposes of being mean-spirited. They know what's real. They certainly know me, and to be able to pull back another layer...has been exciting."
