Sunshine may currently be the youngest guy on The Voice, but he's eager to prove that he's a real contender. He certainly showed a more mature side while singing "Feeling Good" by Michael Bublé. But while this song seemed a natural fit for Sunshine's powerful voice, it wasn't exactly in keeping with his appearance. Sunshine is a good-looking young man, but a curly mop and adorkable glasses just don't seem to fit with the whole Bublé aesthetic.
At first, Sunshine was very resistant to the idea of changing up his look. Coach Gwen Stefani and guest adviser Rihanna both thought that it was in Sunshine's best interest to slick back his hair, but Sunshine claimed that one of his friends did not want to see him with anything other than his signature curls. Rihanna's response? "Your friend would when you're making money, honey!"
Sunshine evidently changed his mind in the time between his final rehearsal and his Knockouts performance. Fans were very surprised to see him step onstage without his glasses and his usual hairdo. He looked like a completely different person! Like the show's fans, the coaches were taken aback, with Stefani at one point musing, "What is happening?" An equally surprised Adam Levine claimed that the transformation felt a lot like a bar mitzvah or, at minimum, a farewell to puberty.
A handful of The Voice fans took issue with Sunshine's new look and claimed that he seemed more genuine with curly hair. However, most of the show's viewers were very happy about the singer's slicked-back hair. Several took to Twitter to praise Sunshine for choosing a look that better fit his amazing voice. Others commended Stefani for making such a great suggestion.
Regardless of his hairstyle, it's obvious that Sunshine is a very talented young man. He has a strong voice and a great instinct for what will appeal to the judges. These qualities — along with a newfound willingness to change up his look upon request — will surely take him far in the competition.
